Help w/ Translating Japanese Dog Tag

Got this dog tag and was wondering if anyone could figure out the unit and the meaning of the star.

Sorry, but nothing on the tag points to any unit. Looks to be a bunch of random stampings that would have been used for 1 2 or 3 for the unit/soldier number.

Thanks Tom, do you know if the stampings are just gibberish or are they just some sort of numbering system? I also read somewhere earlier that the star is an army marking; is that true?

Army had the star symbol. About the closest thing I can think of that had a star stamped into it would be some of the Japanese swords, but that had a very specific meaning. I personally think it is a formerly blank tag that was gussied up. Japanese dog tags are very clear in what information they are trying to convey. I do not see this here.
