    Sword Inscription Help Needed

I would really appreciate some help translating the inscription on the sword. Grip and scabbard are rough but it has a nice blade.

      岡田兼定作
      Okada Kanesada-saku
      Made by Okada Kanesada

It bears a "Seki" 関 Stamp.

He was a 中下作 "Chu-ge Saku" [below average] smith.

Definitely World War II. It post-dates the period when the "Seki" stamp was use -- and I forgot when they began using that stamp.

39 (or should I call you "inf"?),

My info on the Seki stamp put the earliest for this blade at Dec 1941. I don't have a "no later than" date for that stamp. It, and the Showa stamp, are supposed to indicate that the blade is "non-tamahagane gendaito".

In light of what Bruce writes, your blade was forged between 1941 ~ 1945.

It pays to learn about Japanese swords a few yrs ago I lost a sword on Ebay , the sword sold for $1980 I later learned that the smith was a well know swordsmith and actual price of the swords was over $20.000 ....
