    Odd Naval cap badge

Another "what is it?" This is a very well made bullion naval cap badge based on a dark olive or dark gray/green wool base. I thought it was some type of merchant marine type badge, but I'm hoping someone might be able to recognize it. The color of the wool seems odd for a navy cap.

    Thank you in advance

      Eric,

Believe it or not, I have an identical insignia.

The insignia that I have came with an insignia grouping that I purchased a year or so ago. Most of the insignia (that I purchased) came from the occupation as a lot of the insignia had Army stars and Navy cherry blossoms attached to the insignia where the stars and cherry blossoms would not normally have gone. (I am of the opinion that the insignia was "enhanced" and sold to GIs as souvenirs.) Anyway, I was told that the anchor on my insignia was (post war) added and that the insignia was a (Naval?) rail yard insignia. (Take a look at the emblem under the anchor...I was told this was a rail yard emblem.)

In any case, I hope this helps.

Thanks Eric, it's more than I knew before. I remember seeing pictures of a train ferry service between the islands, I wonder if there is any connection....
