    recent yard sale find

    Hello forum..

I bought this lot recently at a yard sale for $100 (that is what they wanted/I didn't haggle).

I figured the wings are worth that alone. The family member was a bombardier.

Looks like he hacked away some pieces from a shot down Japanese plane of some kind. I guess he was looking for anything with Japanese writing on it.

There are also two pieces of canvas he cut out from something.

The air medal is not named but has the earlier brooch pinback. Box for watch is empty.

    Robert

Wow, I wish I could go to garage sales like that!

Your aluminum data plate is for a plane from the Kawanishi Aircraft company, although i do not know which model.

The fabric fragment with the yellow "plate" is interesting in that it looks to have information for a model 33 Suisei D4Y3 "Judy" land based bomber. Although the company is the Tokai Aircraft Company. I suppose they were contracted out in the fabrication of the plane with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Not Yokosuka?), I do not know. Although I have interest in plates like these, I am woefully ignorant of their ins and outs.

                    Nice group!

                        Post #6, second data plate:

                        東海航空工業株式会社
                        Tokai Aircraft Industry Co., Ltd.

                        Suisei 33 kata
                        Enlightened Star 33 Model.
But when I google search 慧星 it comes up as "Comet" dive bomber. But the
Comet Wiki article says the Comet Model 33 was produced by the Yokosuka Aircraft Company.

Hopefully one of the aircraft gurus will tell us what this data plate really means.

Arrggghhh!!! I didn't fully comprehend Tom's post #10 -- he already answered this.

Thanks guys for the awesome help.

are the Japanese items worth much being just relics?

the US stuff I was planning on keeping. Robert

Most definitely, yes! If you put the Japanese airplane fragments together, you can get a few hundred dollars at the very least. I have seen zero data plates go for $1,000+ by themselves, so I guess it depends what collectors are looking for, but you shouldn't have too much trouble selling these items.
