            Original late war navy. Which is a mix of army and navy parts, but all of those were like that. I had few of them through the years.

                These tend to sell for $900 plus or minus 200. The arsenal stamp is the Toyokawa Navy Arsenal.

                I would be really interested if you got, or could get, the story behind the sword. Did this vet bring it back? If so, when and where did he get it?

                  There are several threads on at least 4 sites, all discussing this type of Gunto. What seems to be agreed on all of them is that all metal parts are WW2 vintage. Debate continues as to whether they were assembled before the wars end, or after as US Occupation Force approved souvenirs. My opinion is that they are very late war, Japanese mainland only, for shore based Navy personnel. Others differ in opinion to me. I would like one in my collection, but they don't seem to turn up here in the UK.
                  (This is not touting to buy yours, just a comment that I think they are a desirable piece to have.)
