              Old sword cut down (osuriage).

              兼光
              Kanemitsu

We'll have to leave the rest up to Bob and the boys. They'll want to see a "cheese cake photo" of the blade.

              Sakada -- probably the owner

Could really do with some photo's of the whole sword. It's hard to get an idea of the piece just from detail pics. I would say though that the Ha-machi looks a bit worn,... the step at the edge where the Habaki locks.

                      Larry-
Unlike most collectables, a Japanese sword can not be judged from pictues alone. The grain or hada, the form and construction of the temper and the manner in which the blade is signed all must be judged in handto obtain an accurate opinion. This also needs to be preformed by someone of advanced knowledge and study. The NTHK is holding a shinsa or sword judgement in San Francisco in August. Moses Becarra of Nihonto Antiques is taking blades for judgement for a fee. If you google the name of his business, you can find his web site. With only a two character signature, the task is made more difficult as there are multiple Japanese sword smiths who used that name.

Moses Becerra's web site is below. I've had him polish several swords as well as bought and sold through him. He's honest, professional and an all round great guy to deal with.
