    A few that surendered

My Dad was with the 31st INF Div. Looking through an old photo album I came across this photo and thought it would be of some interest here. I believe it was taken in the Philippines.

On second thought...maybe they didn't surrender. I'm thinking he may have took the photo off of one of the KIA. There are a few other Japanese family photos in the album along with some that I'm sure my father took of the results of a Kamikaze charge.

Some did surrender. Bypassed islands garrisons and others, accepted the reality of the situation.. and after the Emperors broadcast all bowed down to the reality.

they look too healthy to have surrendered after grueling combat. They have all their equipment and their rifles are stacked in front of them.

Old vet friend told of watching a Japanese formation march into a designated area and stack arms before marching into a holding area.
Long time ago and I have forgotten where this took place.
          It was after the surrender.

Take a look at "Oba, the last samurai" based on the true story of Sakae Oba. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sakae_%C5%8Cba

War films showing so called Japanese soldiers coming out of caves surrendering were in fact Korean conscripts.
