    Japanese navy canteen

    Hello all-
Newbie here, saw this canteen last week at a yard sale. I'm really in the dark when it comes to WWII Japanese field equipment, had took do some searching on the net before I realized what it was, then I went back and bought it. it's missing the lid, chain and strap. Does anyone make a repro set so I can put it all together?

Can anyone tell me what the markings on the cover translate to? Didn't notice the faded writing to the right of the markings until I took some pictures.

Also checked over the bottle itself and found a stamp of on bottom, very small, a manufacturer's mark? Thanks for any information you all can shed on it.

I would like a larger image of the writing on the right side. It is very faded, even when I enlarge the images. What I *think* it says is:

    機曹
    佐々木

    マ (ウ) 六
    Kisō
    Sasaki

    Ma (U) 6

    ~Petty Officer
    Sasaki

I have no idea what the katakana stand for. Probably the owner's position in a squad. The is pronounced "oo", not "yew".

If I'm reading the rank correctly, this is IJN; they had the following engineering rates:
    下士官 NCO
上等機関兵曹 = 上機曹 Chief Petty Officer
一等機関兵曹 = 一機曹 Petty Officer 1st Class
二等機関兵曹 = 二機曹 Petty Officer 2nd Class

      thanks Guy for the info-

      here's a close-up that you requested, don't know if it's any better.
Do you anything about the stamp on the bottom of the canteen?
