    WW2 Gunner's Quadrant/Clinometer

Estate sale find. According to Japanese Infantry Weapons Series No. 19 31 Dec 1943 prepared by the Military Intelligence Division of the War Department, this gunner's quadrant is for the Model 11 (1922) 70mm mortar. A kind member of another forum translated the Kanji for me, but said it was for the Model 41 "mountain gun." Any comments on what the Kanji says? For insurance purposes, any estimate of value?

    Many thanks, Al

Can someone please help me with posting pictures?

    PICTURES BEING POSTED

Can someone translate the Kanji on the box to see if it clarifies the type of weapon this might be assigned too?

Some info on the Type 41 mountain gun.

Nice piece! No. 1647 may be the gun's production number. Individual guns were identified, at least in their paper records, by their number in the chain of produced units. But also with an additional number I can't comment on.

Thank you Rod and blinky. I guess that the US Military Intelligence Division of the War Department describing this instrument in their Series 19 Japanese Infantry Weapons (31 Dec 1943) as for the Model 11 (1922) 70mm mortar was not correct. Or might had it been used for both?

          Thanks, Al

Sorry Al, the only certainty is this instrument was part of the equipment for a Type 41 mountain gun which was probably No. 1647.

It's possible it's common to other artillery pieces but that's beyond me.

It may have been used for both. A clinometer basically just measures an angle. I'd think if weapons had the same limits of elevation the same clinometer would work for each.
