    Japanese knife signature help

    Can you guys help me with signature on this blade? Thank you for your help

    This is not a signature but bonji, a Buddist sanscript character for a divinity. These are written stylistically and can have minor variances. This appears to be Kyosansei Myoo.

        Bonji are Sanskrit letters denoting various deities and there are hundreds of them. Some represent longevity, peace, serenity, strength....etc.

        Here are but a few.

          Although you have only shown part of the piece, it appears to be a standard tanto in shirasaya.

              The shirasaya is of a type usually associated with blades that were given as shrine gifts.
