Any bringbacks from lesser known battlefields?

I was wondering if folks had items in their collections from battlefields not as well known to even our collecting community? One hears of Saipan, Iwo Jima and Peleliu all the time, but how about the Battle of Morotai or the Treasury Islands? Granted, some of the less well known spots might fall into a more well known campaign. Curious if some of your items are attached to a very specific place not normally brought up. About the least well known I can come up with for my own collection is a set of techo from Eniwetok. I imagine still well known though with Pacific enthusiasts. Any oddball locales out there?

    Tom,

I got something interesting, not a vet bring back, but from a rare event. I have a document which is a cash award to a Naval Engineer, Itou Kensuke, in 1929 for work during the China Incident in 1928 and riots in China in 1927 and 1928.
The events that the document are referring could be the Hankou Incident of 1927(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hankou_incident), Jinan Incident of 1928 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jinan_incident), and less likely the Huanggutun incident of 1928 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huanggutun_incident). I am assuming it is the first two events as the third is really, really obscure.

I am not really sure what a naval engineer who worked in the ship yards would have done during these events. He had a long career in the Navy as an engineer and received similar pay rewards for WWI. Maybe there is a formality to this these rewards. Nonetheless, it is hard to find documents which list this event.

One of the coolest thing about Japanese history and military actions is that they are far ranging across the Pacific/Asia and seemingly happening non-stop from 1895 on. You could spend decades collecting and still discover new battlefields and incidents.

Here's my contribution which some of you have seen before.

I just recently realised that the surgical kits shown in post 9 are sitting on the flag but it is upside down.

Excellent example, Russ. Thanks for adding your grouping to the thread. It is amazing to compare the garrison numbers on Nissan with those of other islands/atolls. Absolutely minuscule when compared to some.
