Fuzzy Superior Private Collar Tabs

I found these in the back pocket of a soldier techo (passbook), the last date being Jan 1945 (discharged then). The book entry says the soldier achieved the rank of Superior Private on Aug 1, 1943, but the tabs don't look like they were ever attached. And they are fuzzy. Are these authentic?

I had a set like that years ago that came from a vet group. I think they are good. Just a nice variation.
