    Flag for Review

    Hello,

I just got this flag in a small grouping of very random military items. I know absolutely nothing about Japanese flags and I was hoping that someone could verify this one as an original. If it is good, is there anything special about the writing on the flag? (I know it should be names, but is there anything additional, like a unit or name of places?) I apologize if the pictures are upside down, I don't know which is the right way. If they are, just tell me which way is correct and I will take other pictures.

Many thanks for the help in advance!

    Nathan

I love it! I studied iaido for around 30 years, so things related to swords and swordsmanship really catch my attention.

This one has in big letters, on the right side of the Sun disc:

      一剣報国
      Ikken Hōkoku
      One Sword Serving the Country!

      The top sentiment is:
      祈武運長久
      Ki Bu'un Chōkyū
Prayers for Everlasting Fortune on the Battlefield

      Cheers,
      Guy

        More.

        On the far right margin:
        鹿児島放送局
        Kagoshima Hōsōkyoku
        Kagoshima Broadcasting
(Today it is NHK Broadcasting, Kagoshima branch ... like NBC/CBS etc.)

        局長 神川 *た郎
        Kyokuchō Kamikawa *taro
        Director Kamikawa ~taro
I cannot make out that one kanji in his given name!

Upper left corner gives the recipient's name. This is normally seen on the right margin where the Director's name is.
        贈寺師*利君
        Zō Terashi ~toshi-kun
        Presented to Mr. Terashi *toshi.

I cannot make out the 4th kanji, which is the first part of his given name. If you provide a closer shot I can find his full given name.

        The top sentiment is:
        祈武運長久
        Ki Bu'un Chōkyū
Prayers for Continued Luck in the Fortunes of War

        Left side of Sun disc:
        撃減米鬼
        Gek'gen Beiki
        Decimate the American Devils

                  I'm not 100% certain ..... but maybe:

                  贈寺師利君
                  Zō Terashi Moritoshi-kun
                  Presented to Mr. Terashi Moritoshi.

And I just cannot make out that kanji on the station director's signature.

                  Kamikawa ?taro
                  神川 *太郎

That's the best I can do.

                  Cheers,
                  --Guy
