Japanese ensign/flag.
approx 32"X12"

printed design with a ghosting around the printing.
shows up with light behind. double sided.

That would be super sweet, but unfortunately, it is just an unissued IJN towel. You should be able to find others on here searching for navy hand towel, tenugui, something like that.

anything to make a sale. Just as all those swords sold by unscrupulous sellers on EBay came back with vets from Iwo.

Good news is that it's in great shape and might make a nice backdrop in a display of some sort.

Nice find. As Tom said, Japanese navy hand towel (Tenugui). I have a photo of IJN Sailors that were KIA on Tarawa wearing them as headbands also.

If you're going to display it, make certain you show the correct side forward. As it is, the image needs to be flipped horizontally so that the name block is on the left.

Speaking of "squad" .... this is where our term "honcho" comes from (e.g., "who is the head honcho there?"); it's an Americanization of the Japanese term for "Squad leader" ... 班長 Hanchō.
