    Military identification cap.

    Hello,

Is that a cap for an officer or soldier?

You have an idea of the period.

    Thank you for your help.

Enlisted caps are usually lined with that white gauze like material, and have smooth brass buttons that attach the leather chin strap to the cap. Offices caps, although very similar, are made of finer quality materials, usually have a lining made from a black or dark satin material, and the buttons have s cherry blossom on them. I hope that helps.

Can you translate the inscriptions in the cap?

          Dated 1920

          大正九年製
          Taishō Kyūnen-sei
Manufactured in Taisho 9th year [1920]

          Name:
          都築

The surname 都築 can be pronounced MANY ways, here are some:
          Kunichiku
          Tsuki
          Tsukiji
          Tsukizu
          Tsukidzi
          Tsukidzu
          Tsukidzuku
          Tsukidzuku

I'm not comfortable with the given name ... the writing is not clear to me; however it looks like and can be pronounced many ways:
          Takashi
          Katsuro
          Katsunami
          Katsuo

This is another example of how native-speakers are disadvantaged when trying to decypher names.
