Happy New Year's Eve!
I wanted to share this book I just received today, and appreciate any help with translation. It is a memorial book on the Battle of Attu (1943). Can anyone tell if it was made during the war, or postwar?
It has over sixty pages of portraits of the fallen. There are about 2800 soldiers depicted, with their names and information that I presume details their units, ranks, etc.
I have three helmets with provenance from Attu. Unfortunately, only one has the soldier name inscribed in the helmet. "Higuchi".
I would love to locate the portrait of Mr. Higuchi, if possible, in this book. Unfortunately, I cannot read Japanese. Would anyone be willing to help? I can scan the 60 plus pages, and send it by PDF if someone is willing to help. It is possible that there was more than one Higuchi at Attu. Does anyone know if there is a searchable roster of the fallen that could help to confirm that one or more soldiers named Higuchi were at Attu? I am going on the assumption that the Higuchi helmet was picked up at Attu because of an inscription inside the helmet, written in pencil.
Thanks!
