      Appears to be the base of a small bowl. Can you show a photo of the top and give the approximate dimensions?

          It looks post-war to me: 1.) it reads from left to right; 2.) the engraving looks like it was done with a modern machine engraver.

          Hometown Prize


          In kanji it would be written as
          古里
          Furusato


          The symbol in the center is probably the town/village logo. There are thousands ... too many to blindly reseach.

            The bottom is stamped "Pure Silver" -- I had to enlarge the image and rotate it before I could recognize the kanji.

                    Thanks Ron. Regardless of it being post war I think it's a little too large to be a sake cup. Interesting little item though.
