      A cast copy
      It does have some age

        It shows the famous scene from the first battle of Uji which opened the Genpei War, as samurai cross the river Uji. It is a frequently seen cast tsuba, as Nick has said.

            Personally, I would pass on this tsuba, even if it were priced at half that asking price.

              Just in case you are interested, the signature says:

              光永作
              Mitsunaga Saku
              Made by Mitsunaga

              I've exercised my Google-Fu and found some more Mitsunaga tsuba. I do not know if Mitsunaga produced cast tsuba, or if these are modern cast copies:




              Another on Nihonto Message Board shows a modern cast tsuba with a Mitsunaga signature. You'll right away notice this one is the same motif as yours ... but yours looks old.
