    Flag translation

    Hello,

Can you help me in translating this flag?

    thank you very much

    #2
Top slogan can be found here on this helpful translation thread:http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=493366

It reads: "Ki Buun Chou Kyuu", or praying for everlasting fortune in battle.

There may be other slogans on the flag, but looks like all names to me. I don't see a receivers name on it.

      I don't know .....

Recently I've seen quite a few "yosegaki" flags that were very VERY neatly done like this one, with all the names in a nice orderly row. It looks brand new to me, and the ink does not look faded.

It could be a "real" yosegaki flag ... but I'd rather have one that has that old-timey feel/look to it.

The flash of my camera makes it stand out white. Here are better photos.
It is in a very good state of preservation.

This would not be a flag I'd purchase. It's content is unremarkable and just too new and neat for my liking and while I know the flags can have their tabs on the left the vast majority of period authentic flags I've either owned or viewed have had their tabs on the right. I'm also more comfortable with kanji that start and stop with brush marks rather than blobs. The totality of it all would cause me to pass it over.

          Regards,
          Stu

            Thank you for your reply.

For tabs, there are many flags with tabs on the left as well.

            Looked at our friend Griffin.

Better pictures of the flag outside with the macro mode of the camera.

Nothing is wrong with the kanji -- it was done by somebody who is native-level. I just would not buy this flag -- as I said earlier, it looks too orderly and I've seen a few like this lately. Also, I might feel more comfortable with it IF it had a recipient's name on it -- but it does not; not that I can see.

If you like it, buy it; if you've already bought it, then enjoy it. But, keep an open mind that it might be a modern post-war flag made to deceive. It could even be a war-time flag, but with post-war "cosmetics". It might even be an authentic, pre-1945 flag with pre-1945 writing .... Still, it would not be in my collection.

                  Hello lokomilo,

                  You commented

"For tabs, there are many flags with tabs on the left as well."

Perhaps you missed it but I did say that tabs could be on the left.

"while I know the flags can have their tabs on the left the vast majority of period authentic flags I've either owned or viewed have had their tabs on the right"

It was not my intention to cause you concern but to assist you based upon my experience with this type of flag.

                  Regards,
                  Stu

                            Flag

                            Hello Lokomilo-
Just to re-iterate, as Stu mentioned, most flags seem to have their tabs positioned on the right-hand side. Some flags were oriented with tabs on the left and these may be perfectly good, however, most were done in the opposite fashion. Similarly, many flags indicate the name of the person who received the flag, but some have no such indicator and are perfectly good examples. Others give the name of the presenter, but not the eventual receiver. Thank you for posting your flags.
