I bought this one last week from a UK auction house. As usual, their pics were pretty awful but I saw some potential and enjoy the thrill of bidding so I gave it a shot. As it turned out, it wasn't that exciting as I was the only bidder, again! this is the second sword I've picked up that no one else bid on. I get paranoid when that happens but I'm pretty pleased with it.
I just can't identify the school or age, I'm not that savy yet.
I'm thinking possibly Kaga/Kashu province and it has considerable age judging by the nakago. If there ever was a signature, it's long gone.
Would anyone care to take a shot at?
It's quite short for a katana, just 62.6cm or just over 24 and a 1/2 inches but I think it's lost a few mm from the kissaki which looks to have been repaired.
It exhibits a sugha hamon and very interesting Itame hada. It's in old polish which is dull and a bit scratched but there's only one small spot of corrosion on the mune.
Cheers
Ben
