Right side : 山 3474 is the 22nd Infantry Regiment, 24th Division ("Yama" - Mountain Division)

Middle row: 19 (usually the Company number but that wouldn't be 19, I could only speculate)

Left side: Ban 23, soldier #23

The 24th Division was activated in Manchuria on June 6, 1939 and ended the war on Okinawa part of the 32nd Army where it was annihilated.

I'll leave it up to the resident experts to tell you about the unit. All I can do is decipher your tag.

        Mountain 3478

        [EDIT: ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH
that ought to be a 4
        .]

        ========================

        一九
        19

        番二三
        Number 23

I googled and found this memorial to Mountain 3478 Unit [EDIT: I researched the wrong unit instead of 3474; the data about the 24th Div is accurate] (black stone) and the
24th Regiment [top stone]; it is in Okinawa.

Monument Comforting the Lost Spirits of the 24th Reconnaissance Regiment

        Mountain Unit 3478
["Mountain Division" is the nickname of the 24th Division; 24th Recon was a sub-element.]
The Spirits of the Fallen Officers and Men

The larger black stone has the regimental story.
        "...同年 6月 1日配備完了連日斬込隊を敵陣に出動さす同年 6月18日175.5 高地えの夜襲占領翌19日同陣地で連隊主力をもっ平に至る海岸線より上陸連日激戦を転回同年 4月24日首里防衛戦参加...."
...June of the same year [1944] the [enemy] landing daily; from the shoreline the regiment main force reached its position using the flats and reaches on June 18, 175.5 meter highlands. Conducted nightly deployment of Kirikkomi-tai [shock/banzai attack corps] attacks from the 19th to the opponent's side day after day..." [Or words to that effect].

Looking around Google a bit, the Recon Regimental commander was
        Saida Yūtarō shōsa
        Major Saida Yūtarō

Since I'm not knowledgeable about the Order of Battle, I look forward to corrections from our more learned members.

What bogus information? It was excellent info on the 24th Reconnaissance Regiment, including it's commander's name. Terrific! It was a really great post with a lot of take-away's. Thanks Guy!

(That context thing is so over-rated)
