    Ceramic grenade question

    Hello

I have owned several ww2 Japanese ceramic grenades, but never have noticed a red or orange band on them. This grenade appears to have a red band around the body, that has faded with time. Is this a designation for type of explosive?
Thanks you in advance for the help..

    No.
It happens from time to time.

Nice "last ditch" by the way

It looks to me like the white glaze is just very thin in that area and the underlying brown/red clay is showing through.

I tried to take a better picture of the line. It appears to have been put on with a different glaze before firing. ??

I own about 15 of these and I've seen several hundred of them sitting in a huge storage container, none of which were painted/glazed with any bands as you describe.

The more rare ones are found in a specific shade of green and also in black.

          Huge bonus for intact fuze.
