Unusual Stamp

Saw this on another forum and thought I'd see if anyone recognizes the stamp.

Haven't seen that stamp before but I can see a couple of things which are red flags (for me anyway).

~ unusual stamp
~ looks like something has been filed off the tang (just below habaki opposite side of shinogi line to the suspect stamp)
~ is that a partial mei (single kanji?) just below mekugi ana?
~ crude cut out for tang and locking catch on seppa.
~ crude casting of tsuba.

Could just be a late-war sword of dubious quality or a fake?

Kevin, I agree. There are many things I don't like on this one, did you see the rust on the kisaki? That means it was made of steel not brass.

The owner got it from the vet's family, it's clearly old, and the blade has a hamon. So if it's legit, it was very late war and poor quality. Just another one of those mysterious mixed bags.

Seppa, you mean seppa. The kissaki [sword point] can rust.
