Please school me on this bayonet

I know very little when it comes to collecting bayonets. Why did this particular specimen go for so much? Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi Tom,

I imagine it has something to do with the catch on the back side of the grip. The final price may have been a shock to the seller too, don't see any mention of a locking catch in the description. I don't know lots about bayonets either but that's not a common feature.

That's an extremely rare type 35 bayonet for navy type 35 rifle! Someone got a heck of a bargain! These usually sell between $1000. - $1500.
