    Sewing needle holder?

    Are they paper envelope types? Similar pieces (no flags) are still used by stores to wrap bought kimonos. Or other types of cloth items. You didn't mention the size...

      Hi Rich; no, it's too small for kimono, etc; the poster says "...perhaps a sewing needle holder...."

      Maybe an envelope to hold a military-related omamori [good luck charm]?


      But as you say, it will be nice to know the dimensions -- then we can take better guesses; and, unless we can find a wiki-image of one in use, ours are only going to be a guess, eh?

          Sorry, I didn't read the first post carefully.

          There may be no way to know since there are no inscriptions. However, military-themed items were made in the millions from 1895-1945. Made for civilians as well to promote nationalism--or just to sell whatever it was they were selling, much as in the USA today they have a multitude of items with the American flag on it.
