    60mm Wooden Shell.

    Hi everyone
Thought I'd share a recent find from a car boot sale.
I would interested to know a little more about it. I assume that it was used for practice ?
Also is there any way of finding out what the lettering say's.
It's quite heavy at 1.6kg so I would think it might be lead filled.
Any information would be gratefully received

The three kanji around your dummy round basically says: For drills
You certainly don't see something like that everyday. Are there any markings at all on the bottom of the shell?

      Hi Tom
      Thanks for the information.
There is a very small stamp mark on the bottom but I believe it must me a Japanese symbol. Also, again very small but it's stamped 60

The mark looks to be a manufacturer mark '可' meaning 'approved.'

Thanks for the shell bottom pic. Interesting to see that there is a relative lack of markings aside from, as per Rich, the approved marking. Usually these shells (I speak of empty artillery shell casings) are awash in stamps. Maybe there was a company out there that produced these shells outside of the regular arsenal locations, I couldn't say for sure. Hopefully some ordnance collectors can chime in on this. A very interesting item to say the least.

            Thanks for the information.
At the end of the day I don't suppose there's too much else to say about it other than what it is. A dummy or practice round..
I suppose at the end of the war if they were in abundance they could have been used as fuel ? Just a thought.
