$2 estate sale blade for opinions

Good evening all. Have here a recent find that I think is original. Tang unsigned. No fittings. Just the blade. Were Wakizashi ww2 period?

I dont see any evidence of etching or any goofy on the hamon line. Thinking it is good. Thanks for looking -Greg

    Sword

From those photos it looks to me to be a retipped broken sword.

Which I guess is pretty cool. I assume the cut and retip was done some time ago? I doubt it was done in the US. Does it have value?

However. and I am no expert. When placing the cut blade next to my gunto, curveiture is not the same. Vertical thickness not the same. But longer tang then I would think of seeing in a Wikizashi.

Now I am a bit more confused

Here is the side by side

The curvature is different due to the fact that this is a broken sword that has lost a large amount of it's length. The amateur retip is horrible and there would be no boshi making this worthless as a collectable blade

                Have a look here ...

                http://www.ncjsc.org/gloss_sori-1.html

... and you'll be able to see how curvature differs depending upon where the break is in relation to the sori.

There is no reason to destroy what is left as it can be used as a testamenjt to what can happen to a Japanese blade.
