    Possible a Aviation Flag?

    Hi Fellow collector and Sensei,

I've got beaten up left and right and finally ended up here.

I have been studying on this flag and needed some translation.

I've only got around 20% translated on this flag and I felt that there are more hidden massage inside this flag.

One of my reason is also to have all the information here so other people could learn something about this flag as well.

Things that I have translated By other people,

The right end is the name of a shrine.

    Kokuheishōsha Minashi Jinja
(Kokuheishōsha is a rank of shirines.)
Modern system of ranked Shinto shrines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Minashi Shrine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kataoka Yoshihiro is the name of recipient. He would be from Gifu Prefecture.

    Defeat the monstrous enemies

    "One million Tokkotai"
It is an expression used back in 1945.

Believe to be above the Expression Squadron slogan
"Fall (like a cherry blossom) far from the motherland to protect us."

There are slogan Which i did not know where are they such as

"Off to the frontlines in the skies of the southern seas."

Also signed by the principal of a middle school in Gifu Prefecture. I can't read the school's name though. Something...太中

Most writing seems to be signatures. Mr Kataoka's date of birth is by the stamps:
Taisho 15 [1926], October 28. I see nothing to ID this as an aviation flag, but I may have missed something.

BTW, since you are listed as living in Japan, I suspect there are many people who could help you there.

With the owner name, prefecture, date of birth and his former school you might have a chance to find him somewhere if he entered Naval Academy, Yokaren course or died as Tokkotai. There are lists on the web and period diary from Yasukuni Jinja with war casualities. All the informations Rick and ôter helpful people told you should save you a lot of time in this path. That's what happend to me and members here were kind enough to confirm what I found and even gave me some extra infos.

Try to enter his name, birth, school and préfecture with keywords like imperial navy, yokaren, etc (still in kanji of course) and see what happend!

      Whish you good luck!

A couple of slogans mention "Sky" but that in itself does not establish this flag as an "Aviation Flag".

Mr. Kataoka Yoshihiro, obviously was either a student or faculty of the middle school (same as high school today) that Mr. Chen so kindly translated for you.

Gifu-Ken Hida Chūgaku Kōchō Tejima Kōji

Hida Middle School was renamed from a prior school in 1899. This Japanese wiki page states:
"1899. Renamed and school badge was established."

              School Badge:

              Today it is named
              Gifu-Kenritsu Hida Kōdō Gakō
Gifu Prefecture Public Advanced High School

This page names Principal Tejima as the first principal after the Gifu Kano Girl's School and Gifu High School No. 2 were combined in 1948 -- so he was able to continue his career as a school principal after the war:

              昭和23年8月18日岐阜県岐阜第二高等学校と岐阜県加納女子高等学校を統合、岐阜県立加納高等学校発足普 通科を設置初代校長として岐阜第二高等学校長手島高次着任
              10月統合記念大祭挙行

              Consolidation Memorial Athletic Event (1948)

That's all the translating of this flag that I'm willing to do.
