Can anyone identify this box?

I have a box that I believe to be WWII. It is empty but I wondered if it was for some sort of radio or something. Anyone recognize it?

The last kanji is incorrect and I put it in as a place holder. The true kanji is obsolete and I cannot find it in my older "Nelson's Kanji Dictionary." However, it comprises two kanji, 革室, which alone mean "leather room." So obviously it means "leather container" or "leather box."
