Markings appears to be cast as opposed to being cut into the metal. A concern to me.

Not on vactation, but didn't want to spend the energy on a copy. However .....

What was gained by knowing the name on a Chinese cast fake tsuba?

Me three, Nick and Bob ..... but I took at it as a challenge to see if I could actually find the name from a poor casting. Now he can say he's got a reproduction tsuba originally made by Tsuchiya Toshimasa ...... [it's a "research thing"].

                          Hi,
To calm everyone down. What I wanted to know was,do they put real words on these
tsubas and if they do are they Japanese or just a jumble of Chinese characters.

Tsuba makers (not all) would sign their work, usually giving their residence followed by their art name. Your reproduction contains real Japanese words as I have indicated in my earlier post. Japanese kanji [literally "Chinese characters"] can also be read by Chinese, though often the context changes.

Japanese and Chinese use many of the same kanji characters.
