    Questions about tropical tunic

Nothing overly fancy about this tunic, just appears to one unissued? Learning quite a bit about Japanese uniforms so have a couple of questions:

There is no metal hook and catch on this one at the collar, was that standard on tropical items? Also I have another tunic which has the hook and catch, is unlined like this one and has the slits in the armpits like this one but no button flaps like this one. What is the difference? Also is there a place to go to determine arsenal clothing marks? Also some collar tabs have wool backing, some don't. Any reason for the distinction and what uniform they were to used on? A few questions I know but thanks in advance,

This type of tunic was made later in the War and was specifically for tropical use. The earlier type cotton tunic (not particularly for exclusive tropical use) did not have the side flaps (just armpit slits) and retained the collar hook catch. For the insignia I believe switching to the synthetic thread instead of wool was just an economy expedient. Nice tunic, appears to be unissued.

Does it have slits under the armpits to air out sweat?

Zach, thanks for the info, very informative. Yes it has both the slits under the armpits AND the button openings.
