    Any Thoughts on This Sword ?

    I'm presuming that this is a relatively modern pre-war katana.

    Any thoughts on the tang kanji would be much appreciated!

    I'm really photographically challenged on an item like this, so I've tried to take a number of photos of the tang. Hopefully at least one or two of them will even be correctly oriented with the right side up!

                      - Is the tang actually marked "Koa Isshin Mantetsu"?

                      - Can any date be observed?

                        Mantetsu Saku Kore
                        滿鐡作之
                        Modern kanji = 満鉄



                        Date combines Showa + zodiac

                        昭和辛巳
                        Showa Kanotomi, Haru
                        Spring 1941

                        Kanotomi can also be pronounced Shinshi

                              Hello Bill,your sword may have a marking you might have overlooked on the upper edge of the tang similar to this... Regards, Geoff Very nice sword by the way!
