    I'm sure someone here on the forum will know what this is - I sure as hell don't

    Could it be the fuse cone of an anti-aircraft shell? Just a wild guess.

      At least the item will not explode as it says "This item requires to be recovered"

        Could it be part of this automatic cannon round? It's the only thing I've been able to find with "本品還納ヲ要ス"



        嵐山美術館で展示されていた海軍の25㎜機関砲弾との事です。頭部信管は
        、弾頭換栓(ベークライトの蓋)がしてあり、戦闘時前に装着するようになって
        いました。蓋の上部には本品還納ヲ要ス」の文字が入っています。容易に外
        す事ができて、中の火薬の無い状態が確認できます。弾頭のペイントはオリジ
        ナルで外面は朱赤、上部に緑の線が入っています。若干のペイントに傷はあ
        ります。薬莢の尻部には、S18―2の刻印があり、昭和18年2月に生産された
        ことを示しています。全長は21センチあります。九六式25㎜機関砲は対空、対
        戦車両方に使用されました。

            Thanks, everyone, for your help. I guess the vet was planning some kind of trench art with this and some other artillery shells that he brought back. He was in the 1st Cavalry in WW2. Don't know where all he served, but I did see a photo in the estate with him posing with a Tommy Gun, and back of the pic said "Manilla".

              Salt and pepper shakers

              Hello I believe this was going to be part of a pair of salt and pepper shakers I have seen similar before that is why there are holes drilled thru the transit plug the base has been lost thru time
