Japanese rank insignia

This insignia seems to have a white strip. Other ones I have seen have a gold strip. What does the white one represent? Any help would be appreciated.

The center strip looks like a golden yellow on my monitor. If it looks white to you, it's just a faded yellow.

Thanks for all your replies. It also looks like that to me on my monitor but in hand it does look whiteish. I guess with the flash of the camera it picked up some of the yellowing that is left.
