Hi
Has anyone imported or sold a Japanese sword to the UK? I did a search and found this " it is illegal to bring a sword into the UK if it is over 50cm in length and has a curved blade"
But went on to say "
I contacted customs and excise and they said it is illegal to bring a sword into the UK if it is over 50cm in length and has a curved blade. However, they said the exceptions to this are as follows -
- If it was made in Japan before 1954
- If it was made using traditional forging techniques
- If it is for the purpose of a specific legitimate event, such as for Martial Arts, Historical Reenactment or Religious ceremonies...
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has sold to a buyer in the UK or anyone from the UK who has imported a Japanese sword. I have bought a German sword from the states without any problems.
Thanks in advance
Frank
