    I believe it's some type of rank insignia …but i just don't know

    any info would help thanks

    Looks like a button-on pocket rank that was worn at some stage by the Japanese army. Others who have expertise in the field can give a more definitive answer.

    So far, it looks like the rank of senior private Shibata Kiyoshi

    Jōtōhei (Senior Soldier) (上等兵<sup class="t_nihongo_help noprint"></sup>)

    Shibata is the surname.

    Don't know about the yellow diamond; perhaps 6th squad or 6th platoon?

      Except to add it's a late war style and they were often attached by safety pins as well as buttons Guy did himself proud, nothing more can be said.
