Hoping someone can help - does anyone know what this belt was used for?

    Regards

It's way too wide, pockets have no flaps or closure buttons or snaps. Not aware of any military issue ( note Showa date etc) money belt. I have a navy money belt. D rings only found on paratrooper coverall belt but those are painted red brown & are in a different position. Very unusual belt

        Thoughts ..... And More Questions

        Inspector's stamp in an oval:
        高須
        Takasu

        Date Stamp:
At first, I thought it was:
        昭和仐
        Shōwa san

        is nonstandard for [kasa, umbrella].
So ... I wonder if might also be a nonstandard kanji for 10, which is sometimes written ? If so, this could be dated 1935. If not, perhaps this was for an umbrella?????

THEN it occured to me: the does not look quite right; it might be a totally different kanji. The is smaller than what I'd expect when compared to the kanji. And if I squint real hard and look from a different angle (not a recommended technique!) ... perhaps that second kanji is . There is that straight vertical line , mouth , and something above the mouth ????

        拾仐
        Shōwa Ju san
        Shōwa 10 umbrella

        Huh??????

[Here is where the Lone Ranger (Nick) rides in and saves the day.]

        .... "That right, kemosabe!"

I don't see 十八 for 18. Is the second "kanji" an Arabic 18? Hmmmmmmmm ..... that might be.....

And that last kanji ... could it be with the top portion missing?

            Thanks for any hints, Jareth!

              Hi Russ,

What is the length of the belt? Perhaps knowing that would allow us to focus more on a use.

              Regards,
              Stu

                  Dumb Guess

Perhaps an equipment strap for something like a light machine gun bag? The openings used for padding?

Maybe a MG spare barrel bag?

Even with it's length I believe it's a waist belt. Not hollowed out to accept anything other than pockets. MG related have straps with buckles. The D rings set it apart just don't know how
