    Late 1800s Japanese Sword

I bought this sword two days. I know nothing about these. Can someone help? Maybe a value?

    Thanks

    Hi Matt

    Welcome to the forum!

I don't think it's late 1800's, it looks like a WW2 junker. The tang is not what you'd expect on even a machine made blade, looks really banged up. The news isn't any better on the rest of it either. Maybe others will see more value here than I do but I hope you can get a refund or at least didn't pay too much.

    Regards, Rod

I agree with my colleagues as to a correct attribution to the age of this blade. I see nothing to indicate this ismade prior to 1871 when sword forging ceased. The shape and weak tang all indicate a poorly made factory blade.
