Hey all. I just got this flag in the mail from my great aunt who lives in Florida along with a picture of her husband, my great uncle. He served in the CBI theatre along the Ledo Road as a mechanic. He was there the majority of the war and became somewhat famous in his small town for having a very large pinup girl collection in his hut (over 200 models) with most of them signed by the models in the photos. Anyway I had asked his son, my uncle, if he ever found something of his dad's from the war that no one wanted I would like to have it. He told me that he had nothing of his dad's but his mom might have something of his so I called my aunt in Florida and sure enough she had found something and sent it to me for an early birthday present since every year before thanksgiving she goes to Hawaii for the holidays. When I opened my present (I know I did it a bit early since my birthday isn't until a week before Christmas) I pulled out this flag along with a picture of my great uncle in uniform and some newspaper articles about him from his small town's local newspaper. I have no idea how he could've received this flag but I know I haven't seen anything quite like it.

Early birthday present: cotton flag

The flag is somewhat bigger than your average cotton flag but it is hand sewn together. When it comes to the tie strings I'm a little stumped. The ends were made together with what looks like a rope and the edge where the ends are is sewn along the entire edge. Has anyone ever encountered a flag like this? I don't know if this was something my great uncle had made during his downtime or if it is a legitimate Japanese flag. Either way it was valuable enough to him to bring home and preserve and now I have a piece from a great uncle I know little about since he passed away when I was a real little kid (about 6 if I remember right). Anyway hope you all like it and all comments are welcome.Attached Files
