Japanese helmet found in an old country store.

Found this helmet at a auction in a little country store, way out in the middle of no where. The store has been closed over 25 years. I don't know anything about Japanese items and am looking for any information about this one. What is the reason for the 4 small holes on the top? Thanks for any help.

    Air vents

The four small holes on top are air vents, to keep heat from building up under the helmet.

I can tell you from experience, that between exertion and sun, helmets get damn hot.

That is real find from Elvis land! To me, coming across this in an old country store in a rural America that is fast disappearing is special. One can only imagine that it came from some local that served in a far away ( at that time anyway ) Pacific battlefield and it sat there for all of these years, never in a collectors hands before.

I am hoping to get some background info from the man's grandaughter, or at least a name.

Also got an old U.S. Coast Guard poster, it was stuck to the backside of the stores front door.

              Great find.

When they tear the old place down try to be on hand for that Coca-Cola sign. It's not militaria of course but I've seen some of them sell for unbelievable amounts of money.

              Regards,
              Stu

It was auctioned of with everything else in and around the little store. It sold around $375 I think. He had several other advertising signs inside and out.
