    another tsuba

    hello my friends,
here are some other tsubas. can you help me again please? how old? who made it (maybe it is impossible because of the lack of signs). again the second tsuba is very badly cleaned, but the black tsuba with the dragon seemed to be in original condition. at the edges there is a kind of a copper mix visible.
    best regards

The second tsuba motif is a dog playing with a rope attached to an abalone shell 鮑に犬 [awabi ni inu]

Here's a conversation on Nihonto Message board about a tsuba just like yours. One comment says,
two tantō tsuba similar to yours have been sold on eBay in 2007 and 2009, one being attributed by the seller to late Edo period (1800-1849):

No, sorry. But I can say that I find it pleasing -- I like the shape of the tsuba and the raised rim (called "mimi"-- Ohr/ear].

I like it too and am comfortable with the authenticity if for no other reason than the dragon has three toes, which is as it should be for a Japanese dragon. Korean have four and Chinese five I believe.

The first tsuba is quite nice and likely early 19th c.

Was going to say exactly what Bob said.
Like it....very nice. It is pictured upside down though.
