Sunday at the gun show, guy walks up and asks "What are Japanese swords worth?" I tell him $400 up. He says,,,,Ive got 21 in my car. Well after I got back up and went outside, sure enough he did. Dads bring backs, mostly in shirasaya,,,,five emty sayas from a bad brothers exploits,,,,court sword, bayonets,,,Im in shock. I sit down with him for three hours photographing the tangs, many great early light extremely long kissakis,,,,and then this one,,,with a dinked tip,,,,but oh wow! Im spending the next few days calling in favors as hes not yet willing to sell,,,,,,lots of tangs to get read,,,,a good day even if I walked away with nothing,,,,,,YET!

The kanji is "Sa." I have seen the hanaoshigata of the appraiser before but presently can not think of who it is.Comment

Well if you are lucky you will end up with some swords. Often in a case like this, you do a ton of work and then he sells to someone else, but - break a leg!Comment

Just Sa. A couple of generations worked in Chikuzen Province in the Nambokucho Period. They are highly rateed smiths so the blade should be of extremely high quality. I believe the hanaosigata is one of the Honami but am not sure. I will search my library as I have all of the Honami in one book but do not recall which one.Originally posted by GHP View PostComment
