    Japanese Canteen

Greetings, I recently found this one and when I got it I was sure it was Japanese but after looking at it I have my doubts. Many thanks in advance to all of those that take the time to reply.

I thought the names of Peeters and D Smith were maybe US guys that brought it back but it is unusual to see two English names on something

Would you look at the head on that thing? Anyway, looks European, but don't recall seeing another like it.

Not Japanese. The suspension system may provide a clue, it appears to be belt hung and it may be closer to WW1 manufacture given the quality of the leather harness. Good luck with it.

              Dutch KNIL canteen.
It could have been brought back by a US GI as a souvenir taken from a Japanese soldier.
              Interested in selling?

It being Dutch would explain the name Peeters on the leather. I am pretty certain it was brought back from the Pacific Theater by the US veteran. Thanks so much to everyone that had a part in solving the mystery.
