Whilst everything said above is correct, the blades in these usually at least superficially resemble the shape of a proper tanto, even if they have no hamon and are not folded.
This one has a blade so out of shape and badly done that I propose it may be a modern Chinese fake and not even of late Edo manufacture.
The carving looks modern done with an electric tool and the blade is terrible.
I could be wrong, just offering an other possibility.
