    Help with helmet value

    Hi all

I have a chance to buy two ww2 Japanese helmets. The first one has it,s star and a canji? Character in the rear. The second one is a shell with no star(last two pictures). The owner has asked me to make an offer. Any idea as to value and what the Japanese character means?

    Thanks c

That's the kanji for large I believe. As in the size of the helmet.

Stu is correct. The pronunciation is "dai(die)"

          Helmet value

I am certainly not the expert on Japanese helmet valuation, but I have bought a few to restore. For price comparison I would look at eBay and use the advanced search feature for "Japanese Helmet WWII -sake" sold items, then sort by lowest first. Looks like $60 to $80 for the shell without a star, and $100 to $120 for the shell with the star IMO.

If you can get the shell with the star for $120 that's a steal. I've seen them go for $200+ recently, without liner.

Well, I guess even I get lucky once in awhile. Yeah, that genuine star is valuable. I didn't win this one, but it is recent. At least I THINK it is a real star:

I know i'm posting a little late but I would value the shell only one at around $80 and the shell with the star around $150-$200 at least. I bought one that looks almost identical for $150 with the shell, star, and no liner and felt like I got a deal. These Japanese helmet are getting more and more popular it seems.
