    Japanese Woundbadges?

I've found myself more and more attracted to woundbadges lately (at last, a focus for my collection!) and Im currently looking for something other than german woundbadges so im trying to look up wb's from other countries.

I would like to know as much as possible on the subject, if there is such a thing as a Japanese wb's. (I have a small memory of a Japanese woundbadge in a wooden box but I can be wrong.) Any information is helpful!

    Japanese Wound Badge

Instituted by military authority 3 august 1938 in 2 classes, one for wounds in battle and one for noncombattabt wounds or disability.
The badge is 30 mm, in the form of a cross composed of four ancient shields enamelled red, and within the angles are four spearhead of pitted metal. In the centre is a medaillon with the head of a Japanese folk-hero Kusunoke Masashige, who died in battle in 1336 A.D.
The reverse is plain with the caracters of which type of wound badge it is, and a double fastener.
The wounded in battle badge is of gilded silver, the other of silver with the medallion gilt.

here is a website with informations to worldwide wound badges:

          Hi Rich,

Hey, I'm up to page 12 of 25 on the GMIC thread you linked (VERY interesting thread by JapanX)..... save me some time, please --- are there any photos of Japanese soldiers wearing the wound badge? We see millions of German examples, but I don't recall seeing any Japanese photos.

          Thanks,

And I'm only reposting this GMIC photo -- not because of the Wound Badge being worn -- but because of the navy anchor badge on the front of the vehicle. I know some of WAF's collectors like these.

              Thanks, GMIC

EDIT -- apparently JapanX knows Jareth loves the anchor badge as he posted an enlarged detail in the following post. That's me all over: fingers too fast, brain too slow.

                    Mario,

Go to GMIC's page 13 and see a few more images .... such as Yamamoto Isoroku being pinned with his badge.

Go on over and spike their stats.

                      Wound Badge document:

As explained to me by Nick Komiya

"This is a handicapped ID to be kept on your person when wearing the wounded badge. The correct issue date is May 3rd 1941 and the owner was born Jan. 8th 1915. His handicap was not caused by injury but some kind of disease he contracted in December 1938 while serving in Manchuria. The issuing authority is the Ministry of the Army, not War. In case of loss of the badge or the card you were required to report the loss to the local police or Kempei (MP). Changes of address required reporting to the officials within 7 days, and in the event of loss of nationality or death the owner or the next of kin was to return the card and the badge to the authorities through the mayor of the district. This card specifies that his handicap meets the stipulations in the Pension Administration Law Article 24, Clause 2, point 2"

                      Cheers
