      Hi Geoff,

the only source that is known to me will be

Nakata and Nelson Imperial Japanese Army & Navy Uniforms and Equipment (Ironside Intl Pub; Revised edition (April 17, 2009), pages 230-231

As far as I remember Keibodan had the following ranks

          団長 Leader
          副団長 Vice leader
          分団長 Minute leader
          副分団長 Vice minute leader
          部長 General manager
          副部長 Deputy general manager
          班長 Foreman
          警防員 Member

Yours (two lines two "stars") is 副団長 Vice leader (if I remember correctly )

I have to say I am highly suspicious of the Bevo style kanji tab on the side. It looks like a cheap embellishment.

As for the tag next to tab .
              I see character 看 - take care/look after/watch
But I can`t figure out the second one ...

              Regards,
              Nick

It is saying 有隣, which could be a place name or abbreviation for having a neighbor, etc. Anyway, something that does not make sense to me.

Thank you both very much for the help. I do have the Nakata book but the supplemental English language booklet is rather vague. The photos are Great! I was really surprised at the wide array of footwear. I am just curious, were things like footwear, pants, haversacks etc . specifically different for the Civil Defense Forces or were standard Army pants, shoes/boots and accessories used ? I realize especially late in the war you used what was at hand but eventually I would like to put together a mannequin, and would like to accurately depict the typical configuration of the uniform. Any comments, suggestions or advice are welcomed as this is a new area of interest for me and information especially in English is difficult for me to find. Thanks again! Geoff

Geoff, japanese wiki has a short section devoted to Keibodan uniform

                              http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%AD%...98%B2%E5%9B%A3

no sources in english are known to me.
                              Sorry.

                              Best,
                              Nick
