It is a real drag having to repeat explanations on how to read the individual's ID number, so I just wrote a help yourself tutorial that will hopefully be pinned for future reference. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...32#post6547832
Note how the first label uses the simplified writing for the word volunteer. Also the second label shows the uncommon designation of 二補, which means by 1944 the navy had to call in pretty old guys from the reserves, in this case as engineer.
