    Navy string with slider.

    Hello,
Talked with someone today about the brown string with slider often seen with kaigunto's.
The person told me it was a tassel for the navy dirk.
    Thats not my opnion.
I think it was used on the kaigunto's without lock clip and mounted like the one in the photo.
I cant see how it was used for the dirk ? Anyone has any period photos?

This is first I've seen or heard of. My guess is it's just a non military personalization

Nice kaigunto! The one with an ID tag reads "Takamichi"

          孝道

          I can't read the seal-stamp below it.

Taka is the first part of my wife's given name and means "Filial" -- your ID would translate to "The Way of Filiality."

Maybe they were used for surrender hang tags?

Aha! Got it!!!! The red seal-stamp is:

but the "mountain" is done in Greater Seal script and looks like

              Takeyama [Bamboo Mountain]
              ===========

              孝道
              [竹山]

Takamichi [in Chinese reading it would be Kōdō]
              [Takeyama] [artist's name seal-stamp]

Just found proof of usages in my photo collection.

                  I knew I was right.

I will consider the string as very scarce and is more valueble than the navy knots.
