So....I bought a type 38...but not quite....
Here's what I know:
-It is a type 38 Barrel and receiver...and an early one, no series with Serial of 38,923
-It is School marked, witht he 2 extra zeros in front of the S/N and the "bun" school mark over the ground mum
-Barrel was cut and stock bubba'd
The weird part is though, It's got a type 99 stock, trigger guard and presumably magazine, but the rifle still functions (or at least can release the pin)
Has anyone ever seen this before? Is this a postwar fantasy, or the work of a clever Japanese arsenal?
